Children's Privacy Notice

What This Notice Covers

This notice explains how Innovators Academy (“we” or “us”) collects, uses, and protects information from children under 13 who use our Junior learning platform. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

What Information We Collect

When you add your child to our platform, we collect:

• Name and date of birth — to create their account and determine age-appropriate content
• Learning progress — lessons completed, quiz scores, and skill mastery
• Screen time data — how long they use the platform each day
• Creative projects — code, circuits, and other projects they build in our simulators
• Chat messages — text messages in supervised, moderated chat rooms
• AI tutor conversations — questions they ask our learning assistant

We do not collect email addresses from children under 13 (accounts use system-generated login credentials), phone numbers, physical addresses, photos, videos, or location data.

How We Use This Information

• To provide personalized, age-appropriate learning experiences
• To track learning progress and award achievements
• To enforce screen time limits and break reminders set by parents
• To moderate chat for safety (automated filtering + human review)
• To power our AI tutoring assistant (no personal information is sent to AI providers — only the conversation text and age band)

Who Can Access This Information

• Parents/Guardians — full access to their own children's data through the Parent Dashboard
• Instructors — can view learning progress for students in their assigned groups (no access to chat logs or parental controls)
• Platform administrators — for support and safety purposes only, with all access logged

Third-Party Services

Our AI tutor uses the following services to generate educational responses:

• OpenAI — for AI-powered tutoring responses
• Anthropic — for AI-powered tutoring responses
• ElevenLabs — for text-to-speech voice responses

We only send conversation text to these services — never your child's name, email, or any other identifying information.

Your Rights as a Parent

At any time, you can:

• Review all data we've collected about your child (Parent Dashboard → Consent → Export Data)
• Delete your child's data (Parent Dashboard → Consent → Request Deletion)
• Revoke consent to stop all data collection (this will deactivate your child's account)
• Modify settings including screen time limits, content filters, chat permissions, and AI tutor access

Data Retention

We keep your child's data for as long as their account is active. If you request deletion or revoke consent, we will anonymize or delete all data within 48 hours. If an account is inactive for more than 12 months, we'll notify you before taking any action.

Data Security

We protect your child's information with encryption in transit and at rest, role-based access controls, automated content moderation, and regular security reviews. All administrator actions are logged for accountability.
